Rule assumptions
Every automatic calculation in the app follows these rules. They are based on NFHS high-school field dimensions and standard placekick geometry.
Field goal distance
Distance = line of scrimmage + 10 yards of end zone + 7 yards to the hold spot. A snap from the 23 is a 40-yard attempt.
PAT distance
NFHS tries are snapped from the 3-yard line, so every kicked PAT is logged as a 20-yard attempt. Two-point plays are not kicking events and are not logged.
Kickoff distance
Kickoffs are spotted at the kicking team's own 40, which is 60 yards from the receiving goal line. Distance = 60 − the yard line where the ball is first fielded or lands. A touchback is recorded as 60+ yards.
Punt gross and net
Gross is the yards the ball travels in the air and on the ground from the spot of the kick. Net = gross − return yards, or gross − 20 on a touchback. Fair catches and downed punts have a 0-yard return.
Blocks
A blocked kick counts as an attempt and a miss, but is excluded from long-distance and average-distance figures.
Timing and location
Every event stores the device timestamp at the moment you tap the result. GPS is captured best-effort and never blocks logging — if the device declines or is slow, the event is saved without coordinates.
Play drafts and video
Tapping a kick type opens a draft that is saved on the device immediately, so opening the phone camera never loses what you entered. A captured clip stays on the device and is attached to the event when you save the result; if you are signed in, it is backed up to your private cloud storage once you are back online. Clips carry empty clip-start, clip-end and kick-timestamp fields for future film tools.
Reserved fields
Each event carries empty video-timestamp and verification fields so film sync and third-party verification can be added later without re-logging anything.
